    1. Cruising along up 49-28 in the fourth, Southern Miss had to deal with the onslaught as Texas State scored 22 fourth quarter points including a 54-yard Tyler Jones run and a four-yard Demun Mercer score with four seconds left. It wasn’t enough.

    2. Southern Miss hit big play after big play with Jalen Richard taking off for a 53-yard scoring run and a 64-yarder as part of his four scores, and Casey Martin catching a 50-yard touchdown pass.

    3. Nick Mullens threw four touchdown passes for the Golden Eagles with two in the first quarter for a 14-3 USM lead, with Richard’s first scoring run making it 21-3 before Texas State roared back with 22 second quarter points on a Jones 35-yard run and two scoring passes. The third was all USM, which was enough of a buffer to hold on.
