Miami has gone from 0-6 to 6-6 just to get here. That’s an accomplishment in itself, and Gus Ragland’s unexpected return from an ACL injury is pretty much the reason for it. And while I think it’s a great story, Mississippi State will prove to be too much. Nick Fitzgerald is no Dak Prescott, but he’s a solid young quarterback who will get the job done in this one.

The loss of Dak Prescott clearly had an effect on the Bulldogs. Their only point of hope came with a miraculous win over Texas A&M back in November. Nick Fitzgerald will throw for a touchdown and run for two more. He’ll get some help from Aeris Williams, too. Gus Ragland will make smart decisions with the football for Miami (Ohio), but the Bulldogs are going to come out on top.

The future is bright for the Bulldogs on the offensive side of the ball, as Nick Fitzgerald is an impressive dual-threat quarterback with a high ceiling. There is potential for him to be the second-best QB that Dan Mullen has coached with the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, the RedHawks’ Gus Ragland has impressive prep credentials but will be facing an SEC defense for the first time. However, he has thrown zero interceptions this season in six starts since Miami (OH) started the season 0-6. And Fitzgerald will be facing one of the best defenses in the MAC, so the QB battle may be even.

The RedHawks will put up a fight in the first half behind their feisty defense, but Fitzgerald and the Bulldogs offense will take over in the second half to give Mullen a bowl win as Mississippi State looks for a more successful 2017 campaign in the SEC West.

    Brian Stultz

I like this Nick Fitzgerald guy at quarterback for Mississippi State. It’s a good thing he can play, too, because he was basically the entire offense for the Bulldogs this season. Sorry, Miami, Ben Roethlisberger is not walking through that door, so I’m giving the edge to Mississippi State. Head coach Dan Mullen will then post a picture of the St. Petersburg Bowl trophy this summer in a failed attempt to troll someone.
