Temple vs. Tulane Prediction & Preview
Date: Saturday, October 10
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Game Time: 12:00 ET
Why You Need To Care
As one of four American teams yet to lose, Temple has a historically long list of goals this fall, including winning a league title, cracking the Top 25 and qualifying for a Big Six bowl game. All are shockingly within reach, provided the Owls continue to take care of business. Tulane has won two straight, and the Green Wave hopes to use last weekend’s rout of fading UCF as a launching point to a competitive second half of 2015.
Why Tulane Will Win
The Green Wave is brimming with as much confidence as it’s had all year. Routing UCF—even a bad UCF—was a seminal moment for this program. Plus, the offense is finally pointing in the right direction after QB Tanner Lee threw four touchdown passes to four different receivers and Josh Rounds nearly rushed for 100 yards.
Why Temple Will Win
The Owl D has been a brick wall through the first third of the season, giving up just 15 points per game. The Green Wave? Not so much. Temple figures to have a big advantage at the line of scrimmage, which means pressure on Lee and space for RB Jahad Thomas. Thomas is halfway to 1,000 yards and should reach 100 yards for the fourth time in five games this week.
Player Who Matters
A middling Tulane front wall will have its hands full with a collection of Temple linemen and linebackers as good as anyone this side of Boise in the Group of Five. And the pressure is going to come from multiple angles and personnel, including DE Nate D. Smith, DT Matt Ioannidis and LB Tyler Matakevich.
What’s Going To Happen?
It’s back to reality for Tulane, which hits the road for a much tougher test this weekend. For Temple, there’ll be no need to deviate from its usual formula for success. Sound defense and a steady diet of Thomas between the tackles will spearhead a 5-0 start to the campaign.
