The No. 19 Texas A&M Aggies will play host to the Auburn Tigers at Kyle Field Saturday night in an Southeastern Conference West matchup.

The Aggies (6-2, 3-2 SEC) are off the schneid, snapping their two-game losing streak with a win against South Carolina last week. It was the debut for Kyler Murray as the starter, and the freshman didn’t disappoint. Murray threw for 223 yards and ran for 156 yards while passing and throwing for a touchdown. His 379 total yards are an Aggies-freshman record and he is the first Texas A&M quarterback to pass for 200 yards and run for 100 yards. In addition to Murray’s touchdown scamper, running backs Tra Carson (21 car, 122 yards) and James White (10 car, 44 yards) each found the end zone and helped the Aggies run for a season-best 321 yards. Texas A&M’s defense also gave the Aggies a spark when Donovan Wilson took one of his 2 interceptions back for a 60-yard touchdown to push A&M’s lead to 14 and out of reach for South Carolina.

The Tigers (4-4, 1-4 SEC) have lost two-straight games and look like a shell of the preseason expectations that were once so bright. Last time out, Auburn lost a close one at home to No. 18 Ole Miss. Sean White’s first touchdown pass in his fifth start gave Auburn an early 10-3 advantage, but Ole Miss would quickly tie it at 10 and never relinquished the lead. A pair of Daniel Carlson field goals pulled the Tigers within a point, but a 21-yard hookup between Chad Kelly and Laquon Treadwell sealed the victory for the Rebels. White, who appeared injured for most of the game, finished 12-of-28 on pass attempts with 258 yards, making White the first Auburn quarterback to hit the 250-yard mark in three-straight games since Dameyune Craig in 1997 and the first freshman to do so.

The Aggies and Tigers met for first time in 1911 and will line up for the 6th time since then. Texas A&M holds a 4-1 edge in the series and has won two of the last three meetings.

    Prediction

Can Auburn contain Murray? The running game will work just well enough to keep this close, but the Aggies will come up big in the passing game that the Tigers won’t match. Don’t be shocked if this turns into a bit of a track meet for stretches, but Texas A&M ends up on top.

    Game Notes

    • The Aggies enjoy scoring quickly and are 5-0 when they strike first this season.
    • Auburn leads the country with only five kickoff returns allowed and is fourth nationally with only four punt returns allowed. That total of nine returns allowed and 142 combined return yards allowed (kickoffs and punts) are both tops among FBS teams.
    • Auburn has intercepted a pass in four consecutive games, the latest being pickoffs by Blake Countess and Kris Frost vs. Ole Miss.
