And just when head coach Billy Kennedy thought his team was back on track with a win against Florida Gulf Coast, the Aggies went into Arizona State’s territory, and the Sun Devils sent them packing with another loss, 67-54.
For Kansas State, its schedule has been a little bit kinder. The Wildcats are 7-1, and their only loss was against North Carolina, 80-70, on a neutral floor.
Kansas State has been averaging 76.1 points and allowing 63.5 points per game. The Aggies aren’t too far off from that. They post 79.6 per game and give up 64.3 per game, so we might be in for a close game.
Why Texas A&M Will Win
The Aggies play the ball really well on defense, and they’ll have to do that against the Wildcats. Texas A&M has been picking quite a few pockets this season, having collected 66 steals. The thing is Kansas State has turned the ball over just 92 times, so Texas A&M will have to play the passing lanes and be very careful about when they reach when guarding the ball handler. Danuel House, Jalen Jones and Tyler Davis are the trio to pay attention to here. They’re combining for an average of 35 points per game — even though Jones has missed four games. If they get going offensively, the Aggies will be in good shape.
Why Kansas State Will Win
Of course the Wildcats have to protect the basketball. They’ve forced 110 turnovers this season, so winning that battle will position them for a victory. Justin Edwards needs to come up big offensively, though. Edwards is shooting 48.8 percent from the field but just 28 percent from three. He’ll need to get to the basket to open up the floor and allow space for Kamau Stokes to knock down open looks on the perimeter. If Kansas State keeps the Aggies off the offensive glass, it’ll neutralize some of the Aggies’ momentum. Giving up second-chance points can be lethal for a team on the road.
