Texas A&M vs. Northern Iowa prediction and preview. Who’s Got Next analyzes the NCAA Tournament’s second round matchup between the Aggies and Panthers.
Texas A&M beat No. 14 Green Bay 92-65; Northern Iowa beat No. 6 Texas 75-72
The Aggies feature great athleticism, and they do a great job of pushing the tempo and scoring in transition. Guard Danuel House lit up Green Bay in the first round, and his ability to get to the rim makes him difficult to contain. There’s a pick-your-poison aspect to him, too. If you play off of him, he can knock down the three. Play him too close, and he’ll blow past you. Center Tyler Davis is one of the few bigs on the TAMU roster, and he’s solid with putbacks. The Aggies want to run to neutralize their lack of size, and controlling the tempo will be key.
The Panthers are relentless, a team that will just keep coming. UNI uses four guards to attack the basket, and everyone can score. Guard Wes Washpun can get to the rim, and he can knock down the open three. His ability to hit the boards and trigger the break gets the Panthers rolling. Guard Paul Jesperson was the hero of the first round, and his outside shooting opens the lane for his teammates. This isn’t a team that makes many mistakes.
Northern Iowa pulled off a thrilling win over Texas, overcoming UT’s length by spreading the floor and making the Longhorns work on defense. Look for the Panthers to do the same vs. Texas A&M. UNI will limit their turnovers, and they’ll pull off the upset in a tight one..
Texas A&M vs. Northern Iowa Final Score Prediction: Northern Iowa 73, Texas A&M 71
