Texas A&M vs. UTSA Game Preview

When: Saturday, November 19 – 12:00 p.m. ET
Where: Kyle Field, College Station, TX
TV Broadcast: ESPNU

The Aggies gave up 23 points in the fourth quarter on Saturday, as Ole Miss came back to win in College Station, 29-28, to drop Texas A&M to 7-3. The rushing game was nowhere to be seen, gaining just 129 yards on the ground and giving no help to backup quarterback Jake Hubenak, who was filling in after Trevor Knight suffered a season-ending injury the week before.

UTSA is coming off a rout by Louisiana Tech, as the Roadrunners gave up 63 points to the Bulldogs. Two quarterbacks saw significant action for UTSA, but only 179 yards were produced through the air.

What To Know About Texas A&M

Where do the Aggies go from here? Knight, the leader of the team, is out for the rest of the season. Hubenak has experience, but isn’t the same player that Knight was. Look for him to lean on wide receivers Christian Kirk and Josh Reynolds to make plays, along with running back Trayveon Williams to move the chains on the ground.

The defense looked like the old “Wrecking Crew” for three quarters, and then the floodgates opened. UTSA isn’t nearly as efficient on offense as Ole Miss, so expect the Aggies to have some success shutting the Roadrunners down.

What to Know About UTSA

Using two quarterbacks in the same game? Who does Frank Wilson think he is: Gus Malzahn? Dalton Sturm and Jared Johnson both attempted at least 17 passes and combined for 177 yards. Johnson threw the only two touchdowns. Expect them to have trouble with the defensive line of the Aggies.

The Roadrunners must be able to stop Texas A&M’s running game or else it will be a long day in College Station before a long trek back to San Antonio.

Intangibles: UTSA. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Matchup To Watch

UTSA vs. Myles Garrett

Garrett can singlehandedly make a quarterback rethink playing the position. UTSA must attempt to at least neutralize him.

Texas A&M vs. UTSA Prediction

This game could become a scoreboard operator’s nightmare, as both teams are prone to giving up points. In the end, though, the overall talent of Texas A&M will be too much for the Roadrunners to handle. Hubenak gains some confidence heading into the Thanksgiving Day showdown against LSU, and the Aggies roll.
