Texas Tech vs. Butler Picks – Midwest Region First Round

Texas Tech vs. Butler picks for the NCAA Tournament’s first-round game.

Texas Tech and Butler present quite the interesting NCAA Tournament first-round game.

The Red Raiders, well, they just made it into the tournament by the hair of their chinny chin chins. They lost three of their last five, including a walloping at the hands of West Virginia and an embarrassing loss to TCU in the Big 12 Tournament. Had Tubby Smith not won Big 12 Coach of the Year, they very well may have been dancing in the NIT.

As for Butler, the Bulldogs are definitely battle-tested, having faced the likes of Villanova, Xavier, Providence and Purdue, meaning they’re no easy out.

How do the Campus Insiders experts see Texas Tech and Butler shaking out in the first round? Here’s a look at the Texas Tech vs. Butler picks.

Texas Tech vs. Butler Picks

Pete Fiutak

I’m sure this will come back to bite me in the buns, but Texas Tech is an awful 8-seed. Butler, the new Gonzaga, will bounce the sputtering Red Raiders out of the first round. The Bulldogs will hit the three to get past Texas Tech in the first round and bother the bejeebers out of Virginia in the second in a tough loss.

Ray Crawford

The Red Raiders are back and so is Tubby Smith, but Butler will get hot from three to advance.

Shae Peppler

Tubby Smith is showing Minnesota he can still turn a program around. Outside Kansas and West Virginia, the Red Raiders have taken care of everyone else in the Big 12 at some point. The Red Raiders handle a mediocre defense team in Butler.

Ken Bikoff

Texas Tech has been slipping of late, and Butler is going to have a renewed focus after sweating on Selection Sunday.

Jordan Cornette

Texas Tech has a balanced scoring attack. Butler’s Roosevelt Jones is a matchup nightmare. Bulldogs advance.
