Texas Tech vs. UTEP Score, Recap & Analysis

Texas Tech vs. UTEP score, recap, analysis and reaction to the Red Raiders' game against the Miners.

Texas Tech 69, UTEP 20 In Three Things

    1. Patrick Mahomes threw four touchdown passes including a 60-yarder just over a minute into the game to Jakeem Grant, and finished out the first quarter with a 46-yard Justin Stockton scoring play for a 17-7 lead.

    2. UTEP looked like it was going to make it a game with a 91-yard Aaron Jones scoring dash to pull within three, and then Mahomes cranked up two short second quarter touchdown runs and found Reginald Davis for a 35-yard touchdown on the way to a 38-point scoring run. DeAndre Washington finished it off with a 51-yard touchdown dash.

    3. UTEP stopped madness for a second with a 42-yard Jay Mattox field goal, but Davis Webb came in and ran for two short scores for the Red Raiders.

    Texas Tech

    – It’s a different Texas Tech team this year. It’s playing with more confidence and, seemingly, more of an attitude. The offense was relentless on the way to 674 yards

    – Patrick Mahomes completed 18-of-33 passes for 361 yards and four scores, and ran for 23 yards and two touchdowns. Jakeem Grant caught seven passes for 141 yards and a score.

    – The running game rocked, too. DeAndre Washington ran 12 times for 138 yards and a score.

    UTEP

    – Mack Leftwich completed 14-of-22 passes for 164 yards and a score.

    – Aaron Jones ran 17 times for 139 yards and a score

    – UTEP held on to the ball for over 40 minutes, but Texas Tech was scoring so fast it didn’t matter. UTEP didn’t have the vertical attack to keep up.
