The Carmelo Anthony trade saga is finally over.
The New York Knicks agreed to trade Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. The Knicks will reportedly receive Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott and a 2018 second-round pick in return. A trade call is scheduled for Monday and Anthony is set to join the Thunder in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.
Anthony will team up NBA MVP Russell Westbrook and Paul George after the duo helped convince Anthony to waive his no-trade clause to the Thunder. The Rockets and Cavaliers were rumored to be landing spots for Anthony most of the summer.
Anthony has two years and$54 million left on this contract and the trade will increase the Thunder’s payroll to $134 million for this season. Westbrook and George both could become free agents in summer of 2018.
Anthony averaged 22.4 points per game in 2016-17 for the Knicks. He averaged 24.7 points per game over seven seasons in New York.
