Tim Beckman shot out this "One Week" tweet earlier on Friday, and then was fired by Illinois shortly after.
Tim Beckman woke up on Friday morning as the Illinois Fighting Illini head coach, counting down the days until the 2015 kickoff. He’ll go to bed unemployed after Illinois announced his dismissal later in the afternoon.
The university decided that a preliminary review into allegations involving Beckman were enough to send him packing.
“The preliminary information external reviewers shared with me does not reflect our values or our commitment to the welfare of our student-athletes, and I’ve chosen to act accordingly,” Illinois AD Mike Thomas said. “During the review, we have asked people not to rush to judgment, but I now have enough information to make this decision in assessing the status and direction of the football program.”
In one of the more awkwardly-timed tweets you’ll ever see, Beckman shared his excitement for the upcoming season not long before he was fired by the Illini.
Talk about hindsight being 20/20.
Beckman is the fourth football coach Illinois has fired in a row. He joins Ron Zook, Ron Turner, and Lou Tepper, all of who had losing records while coaching the Illini.
Things are very messy with Illinois football these days. When can we expect a AD Mike Thomas resignation? https://t.co/2Y1wamFQqP
