Houston head coach Tom Herman has denied reports that LSU has contacted him following Les Miles’ firing.

LSU’s search for a new coach already appears to be in full swing, with reports stating Tigers officials have contacted possible replacements for Les Miles. Tom Herman says he’s not one of them.

In an interview with Cougars beat writer Jospeh Duarte, the Houston coach addressed the rumors LSU has reached out to him and his agent about replacing Miles, whom the program fired on Sunday.

“There certainly has been no contact. I can firmly deny that,” Herman said. “I’m never going to comment on another job during the season. It’s not fair to our players. It’s not fair to whatever university these reports are about. It’s not fair to anybody.”

Herman is the hottest name in college coaching circles because of his quick success with the Cougars. He’s gone 17-1 since taking the job, beating Florida State in last year’s Peach Bowl and knocking off Oklahoma earlier this season.

Herman understands rumors are going to swirl, but he’s not letting that affect his approach to the rest of the season, nor will he allow it to become a distraction for his players. He said it’s been business as usual for the Cougars since the reports began.

“I’ve learned that’s the nature of the beast. I can spend my time getting upset … but it’s not going to stop.”

LSU named Ed Orgeron interim coach after firing Miles, who went 114-34 in 11-plus seasons with the Tigers. Miles led LSU to the BCS national championship in 2007 and to the title game in 2011, but was also winless against Alabama the last five times he faced the Crimson Tide.

Miles was fired after Saturday’s 18-13 loss at Auburn that ended with LSU’s would-be winning touchdown nullified following a review.
