Tua Tagovailoa Visits With Oregon Coach Willie Taggart In Hawaii

Tua Tagovailoa appears to be enjoying his visit from new Oregon coach Willie Taggart on Friday. The Ducks were originally Tagovailoa's dream school.

As one of his first priorities, new Oregon head coach hopped a plane to Hawaii to meet with elite quarterback recruit Tua Tagovailoa.

Four-star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa finally received the attention from Oregon he was looking for all along, but is it too little too late?

Tagovailoa hails from St. Louis School in Honolulu, Hawaii, the same school Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 draft pick Marcus Mariota came through. Mariota was an influential person in Tagovailo’s life, and the nation’s No. 4 quarterback wanted to follow his path to Eugene, Oregon. However an offer from the Ducks didn’t come until after Tagovailoa had committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Now, having been firm on his Alabama commitment since May 2, 2016, Tagovailoa faces the difficult decision to keep his word with the Crimson Tide or flip to his original dream team.

For Taggart, flipping Tagovailoa would be a huge early statement as the Ducks head coach. It’s not often Nick Saban and the Tide get beat out for a top prospect they make a priority, especially not by an individual so green on the job.

Oregon’s class currently sits at 12 commitments, however they’re anything but firm given the change in coaching staff. Even more pressing, none of the commits are at the quarterback position either.
