The Green Wave lost a close game to Wake Forest to open the season, losing 7-3. The defense held the Demon Deacons to just 175 yards of total offense, but couldn’t put the ball into the end zone themselves.

Southern came up short in its upset bid against Louisiana-Monroe, losing 38-21. The offense had some success moving the ball for 381 total yards. Running back Lenard Tillery starred for the Jaguars, rushing for 164 yards and a touchdown.

    What To Know About Tulane

Will the offense show up, or was that the real Tulane in the opening game? Quarterback Glen Cuiellette was the only player who was able to do anything productive, throwing for 134 yards and rushing for 54 more.

Safety Jarrod Franklin was impressive in fall camp and parlayed it into game action, leading the Green Wave with seven total tackles.

    What to Know About Southern

Tillery, Tillery, and more Tillery. The guy has a chance to be a star in the SWAC this season, and will pound the ball continuously for sixty minutes. Quarterback Austin Howard has to be effective to take the pressure off of Tillery with the passing game.

Defensive back Danny Johnson and linebacker Roshaud Turner both recorded double digits in tackles, but the Jaguars defense will have to be more solid after giving up 38 points in its opener.

    Advantages

    Offense: Southern. Tillery is good.

Defense: Tulane. Can the Green Wave keep up the effort despite the offense giving them nothing?

Special Teams: Southern. Ruan Albuquerque was a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener.

Coaching: Tulane. Willie Fritz is the right man to lead the Green Wave.

Intangibles: Southern. The Jaguars would love nothing more than to upset the its in-state rival.

    Tulane vs. Southern Prediction

A low-scoring game will ultimately take place in this one, as the Tulane defense is too good to let Southern have its way with them. The Green Wave will score some points finally, and pull a close victory out at home.
