A battle for bragging rights in Louisiana will take place minutes from Bourbon Street as the Tulane Green Wave welcome the Ragin’ Cajuns to town. Tulane is 1-2, but the two losses have been by a combined 10 points. After a rough opener against Boise State, Louisiana-Lafayette have responded with wins over McNeese State and South Alabama.

    What To Know About Tulane

Run the ball again and again. That is the game plan for the Green Wave. In three games, Tulane has gained 823 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, with running back Dontrell Hilliard leading the way.

On defense, the Green Wave will count on linebacker Eric Thomas to lead the defense in an effort to stop running back Elijah McGuire, who has rushed for 408 yards so far this season.

    What to Know About UL-Lafayette

The Ragin’ Cajuns wasted no time in getting rid of defensive coordinator Melvin Smith after the season opening loss to Boise State, but enough about that. What we really need to discuss is the freaky muscular build of head coach Mark Hudspeth. I’m not sure any other coach in college football could bench press more than everyone on their team. If I were built like him, I would coach every game shirtless after getting oiled up like that Tongan guy at the Olympic opening ceremonies.

    Advantages

Offense: UL-Lafayette. Both teams can run the ball on the ground, but the Cajuns have a passing game as well.

Defense: Tulane. Held Navy to 21 points. That is no small feat.

Special Teams: Tie. Both teams have been just okay in the field goal department.

Coaching: UL-Lafayette. After the paragraph above, did you think I would pick anyone else?

Intangibles: UL-Lafayette. They want to prove that they aren’t Tulane’s little brother.

    Tulane vs. UL-Lafayette Prediction

This will be a fast game with few clock stoppages as both teams will pound it on the ground. If the Ragin Cajuns’ can get the lead, it might force the Green Wave to have to pass, and that is something they are not exemplary in doing. In the end, Hudspeth and UL-Lafayette will flex their muscles and leave the Big Easy with the win.
