Former Florida State linebacker Tyrell Lyons announced on Wednesday that he is transferring to Northern Iowa, per his Twitter account.

The 6-foot-1, 213-pound junior out of Jacksonville played the first two games of the 2015 season for the Seminoles before tearing his ACL during practice. In those two games, Lyons had registered eight tackles, with seven coming against Texas State in the season opener.

After serving as a member on the scout team in 2013, Lyons appeared in 11 games in 2014, mostly on special teams and at defensive back. He switched to linebacker during spring practice in 2015.

Lyons will be eligible immediately since Northern Iowa is an FCS school.
