UGA football recruiting update for 2019 following the commitment of 4-star defensive end Nolan Smith.

Georgia hasn’t even put the icing on its 2017 recruiting class, but that hasn’t stopped the Bulldogs from reeling in elite 2019 prospects. On Sunday, UGA added defensive end Nolan Smith to the future fold.

Smith, who is from Savannah, Georgia and currently plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, announced his commitment on Sunday to the home-state Georgia Bulldogs.

“First of all I will like to thank God for everything and watching over me … I would like to announce that I will be verbally committing to UGA,” Smith wrote on Twitter.

UGA is off to a great start in the 2019 recruiting class. Smith joins fellow 2019 four-star Luke Griffin, an offensive tackle out of Chatsworth, Georgia, as two players currently committed. It’s also a sign that Smart’s plan of locking down the state borders is working very well.

For Smith, Sunday morning just felt like the right time to announce his decision.

“I woke up this morning and washed my clothes, then I put on a Georgia shirt,” Smith told Scout.com’s Chad Simmons. “I put it on and I just felt at home.

“I am usually at home (Savannah, Ga.) on Sundays, but now I am at IMG Academy, but when I put on the Georgia Bulldogs shirt, I felt at home.  I felt good and it hit me that I was ready to go ahead and commit to Georgia.”

Despite his commitment, he is not completely shutting off the recruiting process.

“My recruitment will still be open to all schools.”

Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs coaching staff is now tasked with holding off pushes from other programs, which will certainly come when dealing with a player of Smith’s caliber.
