With a lengthy list of offers featuring all of the traditional college basketball blue bloods, Romeo Langford will have a tough decision to make when the time comes to choose where he will continue his basketball career.
The product of New Albany High School (New Albany, IN) has a chance to break the state’s all-time career scoring record entering his senior year as he tries to lead his team to a fourth consecutive national championship.
Less than three days after his own national title, North Carolina head coach Roy Williams and top assistant Steve Robinson recently paid a visit to Langford at his school. That sense of urgency shows how legit of a prospect the 6-foot-5, 170-pound shooting guard has been throughout his high school career.
The Tar Heels as well as traditional major powers such as Duke, Indiana, UCLA, Kansas and Kentucky have all offered Langford, a five-star prospect who is one of the most highly regarded national recruits in the Class of 2018. While he has not offered a clear timetable for when he will narrow down his list of schools, he does plan on putting out a top five list at some point after the summer grassroots season, in which he will be playing for Twenty Two Vision with prospects mainly from the northern Kentucky area on the Adidas Gauntlet. Even narrowing his list will be tough.
Langford, who has a good jump shot and can attack the rim, has not made a ton of visits to schools. He made just a pair of treks this past season, both across the river to Louisville for its games against Duke and Kentucky. This past week, he had his first telephone conversation with new Indiana head coach Archie Miller. Langford had been recruited by former IU program leader Tom Crean.
While there is a good chance that the athletic Langford could be a one-and-done, the Hoosiers would certainly love to have him in the fold for a season in Bloomington. But a visit from a head coach fresh off of a national championship never hurts either, as UNC fans are hoping that another talented player will be on his way to Chapel Hill when the finishing touches are put on UNC’s 2018 class.
First thing’s first, though: Langford has another title—and Damon Bailey’s 1990 scoring record (3,134 points)—to claim.
