Quarterback Quinton Flowers should be invited to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, as he has been one of the most dominant and exciting players in college football this season. He did his thing against Memphis, accounting for 473 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in the 49-42 Bulls win.
SMU is coming off a huge 55-31 win over ECU. Quarterback Ben Hicks threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns while both Ke’Mon Freeman and Braeden West went over the 100-yard mark on the ground.
What To Know About USF
Flowers has been excellent, accounting for 19 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing has he has become a star in the making. The opposing defenses can’t forget about running back Marlon Mack, though, who as rushed for 853 yards and 12 touchdowns so far this season.
The defense, if the Bulls want to become contenders, has to be better. USF allows 480.5 yards per game, which puts it at No. 118 in the nation in total defense.
What to Know About SMU
The Mustangs exploded for 55 points in the win against ECU, an anomaly in a season where SMU has averaged just 27.4 points per game. That could continue against USF, as Freeman and West should be able to run the ball against the Bulls.
Stopping Flowers seems like an impossible task, but containing him is something that the Mustangs must do. Otherwise, this will turn into a shootout.
Advantages
Offense: USF. Start believing the hype about Flowers for next season.
Defense: Tie. Neither unit reminds you of Alabama, let’s just say that.
Special Teams: Tie. Can Flowers kick field goals as well?
Coaching: USF. Willie Taggart is a great motivator that will have the Bulls good for quite some time.
Intangibles: USF. Bulls have a shot at the AAC title.
