The Owls will boast the better defensive personnel this weekend in El Paso. While FAU is one of just two Conference USA teams with more picks than touchdown passes allowed, UTEP ranks 127th nationally in defensive yards per play.
After using second and third-string quarterbacks in recent weeks, the Miners may finally be getting back starter Mack Leftwich, who’s been out with a concussion since Week 3. And if Leftwich gets clearance, it’s going to raise the potential of Miner TE Hayden Plinke and receivers Jaquan White and Tyler Batson.
The Miners are in complete disarray. The Owls, meanwhile, are still showing flashes of competitiveness. If QB Jaquez Johnson returns from an ankle injury and RB Trey Rodriguez builds off last week’s solid effort, FAU should keep the toothless UTEP defense reeling.
