    Final Score: at East Carolina 35, Virginia Tech 28

    1. Down early after two big turnovers, East Carolina roared back with 28 straight points with Blake Kemp running for a score and hitting Trevon Brown for an 11-yard score. And then it was all about backup James Summers, who found Isaiah Jones for a 26-yard touchdown in the third quarter and ran for a 41-yard touchdown to keep one step ahead of the Hokies.

    2. Virginia Tech got up 14-0 in the first on a one-yard Trey Edmunds run and a seven-yard Ryan Malleck catch, but the D couldn’t slow down the Pirate offense. Even so, Tech stayed alive with short touchdown runs from Sam Rogers and Motley to pull within seven.

    3. Virginia Tech had one late shot, but the drive stalled as a desperation throw fell short.

    East Carolina

    – Blake Kemp completed 9-of-12 passes for 118 yards and a score with a pick, and James Summers completed 5-of-8 passes for 110 yards and a score. Summers led the team with 169 rushing yards and two scores on 21 carries.

    – Isaiah Jones caught two passes for 55 yards and a score, and Quay Johnson caught three passes for 55 yards.

    – East Carolina converted 6-of-12 third down chances, Virginia Tech 6-of-16.

    Virginia Tech

    – Brenden Motley completed 20-of-35 passes for 281 yards and a score with a pick. He also ran 19 times for 85 yards and a score.

    – Isaiah Ford caught eight passes for 95 yards. Travon McMillian ran five times for 30 yards.

    – Virginia Tech was penalized 11 times for 89 yards.
