Virginia vs. Butler Prediction – Who’s Got Next

Virginia vs. Butler prediction and preview. Who’s Got Next analyzes the NCAA Tournament’s second round matchup between the Cavaliers and Bulldogs.

How They Got Here

Virginia beat No. 16 Hampton 81-45; Butler beat No. 9 Texas Tech 71-61.

Why Virginia Will Win

The Cavaliers are a nightmare on the defensive end, a team that makes opponents work for everything on the floor and allows few easy baskets. Tony Bennett’s team doesn’t make many mistakes on offense, either – treating every possession like a commodity. Offensively, forward Anthony Gill creates for himself and his teammates, and guards London Perrantes and Malcolm Brogdon are experienced guys who can take over. Harassing Butler into live-ball turnovers will be key for UVA, which has the size and talent to wear down the Bulldogs.

Why Butler Will Win

The Bulldogs know how to finish games, and they play a disciplined brand of basketball that will give Virginia fits. Butler’s balance makes the Bulldogs difficult to guard, but guard Kellen Dunham is the catalyst. He needs to be scoring inside and out to keep Virginia from packing the lane on forward Roosevelt Jones. Jones is a good passer, and when he’s the hub of the offense, Butler is tough to stop.

Virginia vs. Butler Prediction

Virginia is rolling right now, and for as good as Butler has been at times, the Cavaliers are simply better than the Bulldogs top to bottom. Defense wins championships, and in UVA’s case, it at least gets the Cavaliers to the Sweet 16..

Virginia vs. Butler Final Score Prediction: Virginia 65, Butler 57.
