Here’s The Deal: Now that the dream of an Orange Bowl berth has ended, Clemson turns its attention to more modest pursuits, such as finishing with 10 wins and a Top 25 ranking. The Tigers, which collapsed versus Georgia Tech on Saturday, have bowed all three times they’ve faced ranked opponents. A visit from lowly Georgia State will serve as a tune-up for next week’s rivalry game with South Carolina. The Panthers have yet to beat an FBS opponent since moving up to this level last year.
Why Georgia State Might Win: To say that the Panthers might not have Clemson’s undivided attention would be an understatement. Smack dab between the Yellow Jackets and the Gamecocks is the last place team in the Sun Belt. The Tiger offense has been feeble without precocious QB Deshaun Watson, whose latest injury is not quite as bad as originally expected. Georgia State is improved on offense behind the passing of Nick Arbuckle to a bevy of productive receivers.
Why Clemson Might Win: How wide is the personnel gap between these programs? There isn’t a Panther who’d start on the Tiger squad. Despite the ups-and-down in 2014, the Clemson D has remained stout, led by DE Vic Beasley, LB Stephone Anthony and DT Grady Jarrett. The Tigers will dominate at the line of scrimmage, which will even help the attack look like the offense of old for one of the rare times this season.
Who To Watch Out For: Of all the disappointments in Death Valley this fall, none has been more striking than QB Cole Stoudt. The starter at the beginning of the season failed to capitalize on his only shot to start, culminating in a hideous three-pick performance Saturday on the Flats. So ineffective was Stoudt that Dabo Swinney is contemplating using former walk-on Nick Schuessler this weekend.
What’s Going To Happen: Against, say Georgia Southern, Clemson would be on upset alert. Georgia State, though, presents no such threats. The Panthers simply don’t have the talent to catch the Tigers napping. Clemson will vent some frustration, empty the bench early and beginning thinking Battle of the Palmetto State before the end of the third quarter.
    Prediction: Clemson 55 … Georgia State 3
