Here’s The Deal: These two could be dangerous sleepers in their respective conference races. You’d never have known it when Florida Atlantic was getting blown away by Nebraska and Alabama by a combined score of 96-7, but there’s talent, there’s speed, and there’s a little bit of pop coming up with a 50-21 win over Tulsa for a 1-0 record in Conference USA play. Wyoming is also 1-0 after a tight late win over Air Force, and even with a blowout loss at Oregon last week, head coach Craig Bohl appears to have things on the right track.
Why Florida Atlantic Might Win: Turnovers and mistakes have been a problem so far for Wyoming. The Cowboys were a -2 against Montana – they didn’t come up with a takeaway – and they were -3 against Oregon – also, no takeaways. FAU has been careful with the ball so far with just one lost fumble on the year and three takeaways against Tulsa. This is a well-coached Owl team that won’t beat itself.
Why Wyoming Might Win: FAU isn’t moving the chains on key downs. It took advantage of mistakes against Tulsa, and it came up with some big plays, but it didn’t do much on third downs converting just 5-of-15 chances. On the year, the Owls have converted a mere 11-of-40 tries – 27.5%. Considering third down stops have been a huge issue for the Cowboys, they might get a bit of a break.
Who To Watch Out For: The running game will likely be the key to the game – the team that does it better will win – putting the pressure on Shaun Wick, Wyoming’s big junior back. Good last year, he finished with 979 yards and nine touchdowns in the key part of the attack. This year, he’s been the centerpiece running for 134 yards against Montana and 122 against Oregon. Stuffed by Air Force, UW won anyway, but he has to hit the 100-yard mark.
What’s Going To Happen: FAU’s Auburn style of offense will be effective and efficient, while Wyoming will make a few too many mistakes. The Owls will be a wee bit sharper.
    Prediction: Florida Atlantic 30 … Wyoming 27
    Line: Wyoming -3.5 o/u: 47
