Sept. 20 New Mexico 38, at New Mexico State 35
And You Care Because … New Mexico finally pulled ahead for good in a nip-and-tuck game with 27 seconds to play on a five-yard Reece White touchdown catch. New Mexico State had the lead late after grinding out a 17-play drive finishing with a ten-yard Joshua Bowen touchdown catch, but the Lobos rallied back for the victory. UNM ran for 432 yards, but New Mexico State always had an answer – neither team was ever up by more than one score. The Aggies got two Tyler Rogers touchdown passes and an 18-yard scoring run, but all that did was keep the pace.
What Else? New Mexico used four different quarterbacks combining to complete 8-of-14 passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns, but it was Lamar Jordan who came up with the final score completing all three of his passes for 16 yards and a touchdown and ran eight times for 40 yards.
    – New Mexico State QB Tyler Rogers completed 32-of-47 passes for 333 yards and two scores with two picks and ran five times for 44 yards and a score
    – Total yards: New Mexico State 507 – New Mexico 499
    – New Mexico RB Crusoe Gongbay ran 15 times for 134 yards and a score.
    Game Rating: A

Sept. 20 at Wyoming 20, Florida Atlantic 19
And You Care Because … Florida Atlantic was up two and could’ve run out the clock, but a Jaquez Johnson lost a fumble and Wyoming capitalized with an improbably 88-yard pass play to Dominic Rufran to set up a game-winning 18-yard Stuart Williams field goal. In a tight battle, FAU’s Greg Joseph hit four field goals and Johnson took off for a 14-yard scoring dash, while Wyoming got short touchdown runs from Shaun Wick and D.J. May to keep pace. Joseph’s 33-yard field goal with just over eight minutes appeared to hold up until the wild ending.
What Else? Wyoming RB Shaun Wick ran 14 times for 111 yards and a score, and D.J. May added 71 yards and a score on 15 carries
    – Florida Atlantic QB Jaquez Johnson completed 14-of-28 passes for 99 yards and ran 11 times for 44 yards and a touchdown
    – Turnovers: FAU 3 (all fumbles) – Wyoming 1
    – Wyoming QB Colby Kirkegaard completed 10-of-23 passes for 161 yards – 88 in on play to Dominic Rufran
    Game Rating: A

Sept. 20 at Arkansas State 21, Utah State 14 OT
And You Care Because … In a miraculous finish, Arkansas State tied the game on a four-yard Johnston White touchdown run late in the fourth, and forced overtime when Artez Brown blocked a 38-yard field goal attempt. In the OT, Fredi Knighten gave ASU the win on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Dijon Paschal. Utah State started out the scoring on a 81-yard Hunter Sharp touchdown catch in the first, and had a 14-7 lead in the third on a 41-yard Ronald Butler touchdown grab, but ASU woke up and came through in the final minutes.
What Else? Penalties: Utah State 11 for 100 yards – Arkansas State 8 for 62 yards
    – Turnovers: Arkansas State 4 – Utah State 1
    – Arkansas State RB Johsnton White ran 18 times for 100 yards and a score
    – Utah State QB Darell Garretson completed 27-of-46 passes for 268 yards and two score with a pick
    Game Rating: B+

Sept. 20 at Oregon State 28, San Diego State 7
And You Care Because … San Diego State scored first on a two-yard Donnel Pumphrey touchdown run, but it was all Oregon State the rest of the way with Terron Ward and Storm Woods each running for two scores. The Beaver defense held San Diego State to 215 yards and shut down the Aztec O after the early scoring drive.
What Else? Oregon State QB Sean Mannion completed 24-of-31 passes for 275 yards and a pick
    – San Diego State RB Donnel Pumphrey ran 17 times for 80 yards and a score and caught two passes for 14 yards
    – Oregon State RB Storm Woods ran 11 times for 52 yards and two scores, and Terron Ward ran 15 times for 50 yards and two touchdowns.

    Game Rating: C

Sept. 20 Minnesota 24, San Jose State 7
And You Care Because … Minnesota bludgeoned San Jose State with its rushing attack in a game it never trailed. The Gophers outgained the Spartans on the ground, 380-68, controlling the clock and the scoreboard for all four quarters. San Jose State never got closer than 10-7 on a Blake Jurich to Tyler Winston touchdown pass with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter. And the Spartans never scored again, struggling to get beyond midfield on the Minnesota defense.
What Else? For the second time this season, Gopher RB David Cobb ran for more than 200 yards, ripping off 207 yards and two scores on 34 carries. He also got help from QB Chris Streveler, who pitched in 161 yards and a touchdown on 18 rushes.
    – Streveler completed one pass, and attempted seven, yet San Jose State could not stop the Minnesota ground game. The Spartans have talented individuals, like LB Vince Bughiar and DL Travis Raciti, but their tackling and ability to disengage from blocks needs a major upgrade.
    – The Gopher D put on a terrific show, stifling the Spartans all game long. San Jose State couldn’t stop Minnesota at the point of attack, giving up nine tackles for loss and three sacks.
    – Winston was San Jose State’s best offensive player in Minnesota. Along with the touchdown catch, he had nine grabs for 94 yards.

    Sept. 20 Colorado 21, Hawaii 12
And You Care Because … A record-setting day from WR Nelson Spruce, and a solid effort from the D propelled Colorado back to the .500 mark. Spruce hauled in a Buff-record 13 passes for 172 yards and the game’s first touchdown, while the defense didn’t allow a TD in a game for the first time in four years. Hawaii rallied to within nine points in the third quarter, but went the final 22 minutes without getting back on the board.
What Else? Spruce’s battery mate, QB Sefo Liufau, went 29-of-45 for 287 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. His other scoring strike went to George Frazier.
    – The Warriors used three different quarterbacks, none of whom worked. Jeremy Higgins, Ikaiaka Woolsey and Taylor Graham combined to go 17-of-46 for 155 yards and a pick.
    – Hawaii, though, did have a pulse on the ground. Powerful RB Steven Lakalaka carried the ball 19 times for 123 yards, including a long run of 30 yards.
    – Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre is happy with the win but undoubtedly dissatisfied with his team’s execution. The Buffaloes committed nine penalties, and too often failed to put away Hawaii when it had a chance.
    Game Rating: D+

And You Care Because … Jay Ajayi ran for three first half scores and Dan Goodale hit three second half field goals as Boise State had few problems putting away the Ragin’ Cajuns. ULL was under pressure all game long, and finally got in the end zone early in the fourth down 31-3 with a seven-yard Elijah McGuire run.
What Else? Boise State RB Jay Ajayi ran 27 times for 150 yards and three scores, and caught five passes for 37 yards
