GAMES IN ORDER FROM BEST TO WORST

    Miami at Florida State

Final Score: Florida State 29, Miami 24
Pick: Florida State 28, Miami 27
    Line: Florida State -9, o/u: 50.5

Dalvin Cook tore off a 72-yard touchdown run and took a pass 36 yards for a score as Florida State got out to a 17-3 lead looking like it was on its way to a blowout, but the offense kept stalling and finishing with three Roberto Aguayo field goals. The door was open for Miami, and it kicked it in with three Brad Kaaya touchdown passes including a 58-yarder to Rashawn Scott and a 29-yarder to Stacy Coley on a brilliant catch for a 24-23 fourth quarter lead. But Florida State rallied back with Cook running for a 23-yard score to take back the lead. The final Miami drive stalled.

Player of the Game: Florida State RB Dalvin Cook ran 22 times for 222 yards and two scores, and caught three passes for 47 yards and a score.

    Boston College at Wake Forest

Final Score: Wake Forest 3, Boston College 0
Pick: Boston College 22, Wake Forest 16
    Line: Boston College -7.5

In a weird game with a wild finish for a 3-0 game – the only points coming on a 25-yard Mike Weaver field goal – Boston College had a shot to win it late, but fumbled the ball inside the Wake Forest ten in with just over a minute to play. But the Demon Deacons couldn’t close it out, losing the ball on a fumble to give BC one last shot. The Eagles got down to the one, but time ran out. Wake Forest managed just five first downs, but the defense came up with four takeaways.

Player of the Game: Wake Forest LB Brandon Chubb made nine tackles with three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

    Virginia at Pitt

Final Score: Pitt 26, Virginia 19
    Pick: Pittsburgh 28, Virginia 20
    Line: Pittsburgh -10, o/u: 46.5

Pitt survived a Virginia rally after getting up 17-3 in the first quarter on a 37-yard Scott Orndoff touchdown catch, a four-yard Quadree Ollison run, and a 33-yard Chris Blewitt field goal. Panther quarterback Nathan Peterman threw two touchdown passes, but he was sacked and lost a fumble for a score, and Matt Johnson pulled the Cavaliers within seven on a Canaan Severin 32 yard touchdown catch late in the fourth. The Cavs had one last shot, but the drive fizzled out. Pitt outgained Virginia 363 yards to 348.

Player of the Game: Pitt QB Nathan Peterman completed 17-of-24 passes for 222 yards and two scores.

    Syracuse at South Florida

Final Score: South Florida 45, Syracuse 24
Pick: Syracuse 24, South Florida 20
    Line: South Florida -2.5 o/u: 48

The normally mediocre South Florida offense woke up with Marlon Mack running for touchdowns from 25 yards out and 45 yards away, and Quinton Flowers running for a touchdown and throwing for another in the surprisingly easy win. Syracuse pulled within seven on a seven-yard Eric Dungey touchdown run late in the third, but South Florida scored 21 unanswered points starting with the second Mack dash. USF outgained Syracuse 541 yards to 305.

Player of the Game: South Florida RB Marlon Mack ran 20 times for 184 yards and two scores.

    NC State at Virginia Tech

Final Score: Virginia Tech 28, NC State 13
Pick: Virginia Tech 24, NC State 23
    Line: Pick, o/u: 50

NC State got out to a 10-0 lead helped by an eight-yard Jumichael Ramos touchdown catch, and then it was the Isaiah Ford show, catching three second quarter touchdown passes from 27, five and two yards out for a 21-10 Virginia Tech halftime lead. Just when it seemed like the Wolfpack were going to get back in it with Kyle Bambard’s second field goal of the game, Travon McMillian ended the fun with a 59-yard touchdown run in the fourth. The Hokies outgained the Wolfpack 358 yards to 270.

Player of the Game: Virginia Tech WR Isaiah Ford caught four passes for 39 yards and three scores.

    Georgia Tech at Clemson

    Line: Clemson -7, o/u: 54.5

Wayne Gallman ran for two first quarter touchdown runs from 66 yards out on the first drive and a one-yarder on the way to a 26-3 lead. Deshaun Watson came up with two touchdown passes in the second quarter to Jordan Leggett from 29 and eight yards out, and the blowout was on. A 35-yard Zac Brooks run in the third put Clemson up 40-10, and the D coasted from there. Justin Thomas threw two touchdown passes for the Yellow Jackets, but they were held to 71 rushing yards on 42 carries.

Player of the Game: Clemson QB Deshaun Watson completed 21-of-30 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 16 yards.

    Duke at Army West Point

Final Score: Duke 44, Army West Point 3
    Pick: Duke 23, Army 13
    Line: Duke -12, o/u: 47.5

It was never a game. The Blue Devils scored the first 27 points helped by a 43-yard Jela Duncan touchdown run and a nine-yard Erich Schneider catch. Ross Martin hit three field goals and Parker Boehme ran for two short scores in the blowout. Duke’s defense kept the Army option attack in check, allowing just 113 rushing yards and giving up a 22-yard Daniel Grochowski field goal in the third quarter. Army turned the ball over three times and finished with only 168 yards of total offense.

Player of the Game: Duke LB Dwayne Norman made 11 tackles – ten solo – with a forced fumble and a tackle for loss.
