Week 7 Roundup: ACC

Oct. 11 at Notre Dame 50, North Carolina 43 
And You Care Because … Both teams kept turning the ball over and committing penalties, but Notre Dame was able to overcome its problems with three Everett Golson touchdown passes and a terrific day from Tarean Folston, who ran for two fourth quarter touchdowns in the comeback victory. North Carolina didn’t stop pressing, with Marquise Williams running for a score and throwing two touchdown passes including an 18-yarder to Mack Hollins to pull within seven in the final minute, but Notre Dame recovered the onside kick. Golson threw an interception for a score in the first half for a 14-0 North Carolina lead, but he came right back on the ensuing drive with a 13-yard scoring pass to William Fuller to spark a 21-point scoring run. The two teams traded shots the rest of the way until Folston’s fourth quarter scoring runs from nine and six yards out. 
What Else? Notre Dame QB Everett Golson completed 21-of-38 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns with a pick six, and he ran 12 times for 71 yards 
– North Carolina QB Marquise Williams completed 24-of-41 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, and led the team with 132 yards and a score on 18 carries 
– Penalties: Notre Dame 10 for 76 yards – North Carolina 9 for 94 yards

Oct. 11 at Clemson 23, Louisville 17 
And You Care Because … Clemson came up with a goal line stand stopping Louisville on 4th and 2 in the final seconds after a stop on a 73-yard pass play to James Quick to set up the dramatic finish. The Tigers took the lead for good on two of Ammon Lakip’s three second half field goals, while Louisville could only manage a 22-yard Eli Rogers touchdown catch after Dominique Brown scored on a two-yard touchdown run early in the second. The Tiger offense lost star QB Deshaun Watson to an injury in the first half, but got an Adam Humphries 72-yard punt return for a score and the defense recovered a fumble for a touchdown to take control early. The defense overcame the O’s problems. 
What Else? Louisville QB Will Gardner completed 10-of-16 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown 
– Clemson WR Artavis Scott caught ten passes for 66 yards 
– Third down conversions: Clemson 2-of-16 – Louisville 1-of 17 
– Penalties: Louisville 11 for 65 yards – Clemson 3 for 14 yards

Oct. 11 at Miami 55, Cincinnati 34 
And You Care Because … Duke Johnson tore off an 80-yard touchdown run on Miami’s first play from scrimmage, and Brad Kaaya threw three touchdown passes finding Phillip Dorsett from 28 and 79 yards away. The defense got into the act with a 46-yard Tyriq McCord 46-yard interception return for a score on the way to a 41-13 Hurricane lead going into the fourth, and Kaaya put the game well out of reach with a one-yard scoring run in the fourth. 
What Else? Total yards: Miami 621 – Cincinnati 422 
– Miami RB Duke Johnson became the school’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards. He ran ten times for 162 yards and a touchdown 
– Cincinnati QB Gunner Kiel completed 31-of-57 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions 
– Penalties: Miami 13 for 155 yards – Cincinnati 5 for 54 yards

Oct. 11 Duke 31, at Georgia Tech 25 
And You Care Because … Duke tow two short touchdown runs from Thomas Sirk and a four-yard scoring dash from Josh Snead on the way to a 31-12 lead, but Georgia Tech fought its way back with two scoring runs from Tim Byerly to make it a six-point game late. Duke recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock to close out a sloppy day from the Yellow Jackets, who turned it over three times and committed eight penalties. 
What Else? Duke RB Anthony Boone ran 14 times for 102 yards and a touchdown 
– Georgia Tech QB Tim Byerly completed 7-of-10 passes for 125 yards, and ran six times for 30 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Thomas suffered an injured ankle, but completed 6-of-15 passes for 61 yards and two interceptions, and ran 15 times for a team-high 119 yards 
– Rushing yards: Georgia Tech 282 – Duke 250 
– Third down conversions: Georgia Tech 7-of-11 – Duke 6-of 13

Oct. 11 Boston College 30, at NC State 14 
And You Care Because … A thunderstorm delay couldn’t slow down a Boston College rushing attack that rolled up 310 yards and helped crank out 20 unanswered points in the second half. NC State got a two-yard Tony Creecy touchdown run and a 16-yard David Grinnage scoring pass in the first quarter, but that would be it. BC always had an answer, mostly coming from QB Tyler Murphy, who scored on runs of 47 and 26 yards out, and with Sherman Alston and Jon Hilliman each adding touchdown dashes. 
What Else? Time of possession: Boston College 38:43 – NC State 21:17 
– Boston College QB Tyler Murphy completed 12-of-19 passes for 101 yards, and ran 15 times for a team-leading 132 yards and two scores 
– NC State QB Jacoby Brissett completed 14-of-30 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown with an interception 
– NC State ran 28 times for 43 yards and a touchdown

Oct. 11 Florida State 38, at Syracuse 20 
And You Care Because … Amid all of the off-field issues and controversies, Florida State took care of business getting up 24-6 at halftime on two Mario Pender touchdowns, a 34-yard Roberto Aguayo field goal, and a 21-yard Nick O’Leary touchdown catch. Jameis Winston threw his third touchdown pass midway through the third quarter, and the Seminoles took their foot off the gas. Syracuse got two second half touchdown passes from A.J. Long to Steve Ishmael. 
What Else? Florida State QB Jameis Winston completed 30-of-36 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns 
– Syracuse QB A.J. Long completed 16-of-27 passes for 167 yards and two scores and two picks, and ran three times for 20 yards 
– Turnovers: Syracuse 3 – Florida State 2 
– Time of possession: Florida State 36:27 – Syracuse 23:33
