    And You Care Because … In a wild finish, Down 13-10, UTSA tied is on Sean Ianno’s second field goal of the game with 1:54 to play. FIU fumbled the ball away, and Ianno came through again, hitting a 39-yard field goal with less than a minute to go. FIU had one last shot, but its desperation pass was picked off. The Golden Panthers, scored the first ten points of the game helped by a 15-yard Jonnu Smith touchdown catch, but could only manage a 24-yard Austin Taylor field goal the rest of the way thanks to an offense that turned it over five times.

    – UTSA QB Austin Robinson completed 14-of-17 passes for 144 yards and led the team with 64 rushing yards on 15 carries 
    – FIU QB Alex McGough completed 11-of-25 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown with two picks

    Oct. 11 at UTEP 42, Old Dominion 35 
    And You Care Because … Josh Bell ran for three touchdowns, but UTEP pulled away from a 28-28 tie on two Jameill Showers to Autrey Golden touchdown passes in the fourth on plays from ten and 32 yards out. ODU made it interesting in the final moments, pulling within seven on Taylor Heinicke’s third touchdown pass of the game, but UTEP was able to run out the clock. The Miners appeared to be in control with a 21-7 halftime lead, but Heinicke kept throwing, and helped by two Ray Lawry touchdown runs to tie it up going into the fourth. Showers took care of the rest in the fourth. 
    What Else? Time of possession: UTEP 41:26 – Old Dominion 18:34 
    – UTEP RB Aaron Jones ran 18 times for 103 yards. Josh Bell ran ten times for 76 yards and three touchdowns 
    – ODU QB Taylor Heinicke completed 13-of-25 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Ray Lawry ran 13 times for 117 yards and two scores 
    – Third down conversions: UTEP 10-of-16 – UDU 4-of-10. The team teams combined to go 0-for-5 on fourth downs

    Oct. 11 Rice 41, at Army 21 
    And You Care Because … Rice got up early and made Army try to come from behind. Mario Hull caught a five-yard touchdown pass and Driphus Jackson threw two scoring passes on the way to a 31-14 lead, and the Owls put it away in the third on Darik Dillard’s second touchdown of the game. Army tried to hang around on touchdown runs from Larry Dixon and Angel Santiago, and a seven-yard Xavier Moss scoring grab, but the Owls kept pulling away when they had to. 
    What Else? Rushing yards: Army 250 – Rice 182 
    – Rice QB Driphus Jackson completed 15-of-21 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns, and ran seven times for 29 yards 
    – Army QB Angel Santiago completed 5-of-11 passes for 37 yards and a score, and ran 23 times for 106 yards and a touchdown 
    – Rice RB Jowan Davis ran 21 times for 77 yards

    Oct. 11 at Marshall 49, Middle Tennessee 24 
    And You Care Because … Marshall got up 14-0 right away on two of Devon Johnson’s three touchdown runs, and Rakeem Cato and the passing game had few problems, too. Cato threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter, ran for a four yard score in the third, and found Craig Wilkins for a second time on the fourth. Middle Tennessee tried to keep pace, with Austin Grammer throwing two short touchdown passes, but Marshall was never threatened after the first quarter. 
    What Else? Marshall QB Rakeem Cato extended his streak of games with a touchdown pass with 38. He completed 17-of-33 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns with a pick, and ran for a score
    – Middle Tennessee RB Jordan Parker ran 14 times for 100 yards 
    – Marshall RB Devon Johnson ran 19 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns 
    – Each team committed eight penalties for 101 yards

    Oct. 11 at UAB 56, North Texas 21 
    And You Care Because … UAB exploded to a 28-0 lead on a 40-yard Jontavious Morris fumble return for a score and a Lamarcus Farmer interception return for a touchdown as part of five North Texas turnovers that made the game a laugher. The Blazer defense would be at it again in the third on a Darius Williams interception return for a touchdown, but the offense got into the act, too. Cody Clements threw two touchdown passes, including a 74-yarder to Jamarcus Nelson, and he ran for another. North Texas moved the ball, when it wasn’t turning the ball over, getting a 27-yard touchdown run from Antoinne Jimmerson and scoring passes from Dajon Williams and Andrew McNulty. 
    What Else? Turnovers: North Texas 5 – UAB 0 
    – UAB QB Cody Clements completed 17-of-22 passes for 316 yards and two scores, and ran nine times for 24 yards and a score 
    – North Texas RB Antoinne Jimmerson ran 13 times for 104 yards and a touchdown 
    – North Texas QBs Andrew McNulty and Dajon Williams combined to complete 20-of-35 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns with Williams towing two pick sixes.
