Which College Football Teams Have the Longest Active Home Winning Streaks?

There are eight FBS teams that have an active home winning streak that’s at least a regular season’s worth of games (12), including three schools with home winning streaks of at least 15 games.

Ahead of Week 1 of the 2019 college football season, we identified which schools have the longest active home winning streaks, and while many of the usual suspects are on the list (don’t be surprised to see Alabama and Clemson rank highly), there are also two FBS independents and three Group of Five programs.

For each school, we listed its next home game, as well as an upcoming home game that presents the biggest challenge.

The following schools have the longest active home winning streaks entering this weekend.

1. Alabama, 26 games

The Crimson Tide’s last home loss came three and a half seasons ago, when No. 15 Ole Miss knocked off No. 2 Alabama on Sept. 19, 2015, behind Chad “Swag” Kelly’s 341 passing yards and three touchdowns.

In Alabama’s 26 consecutive home wins since losing to Ole Miss, the Crimson Tide has held 11 opponents to seven points or less, and six victories were against ranked opponents — No. 4 LSU, No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 16 Auburn, No. 18 Mississippi State, No. 19 LSU, No. 22 Texas A&M.

Next home game: Sept. 7 vs. New Mexico State

Game when the streak could end: Sept. 19, 2020 vs. Georgia

T-2. Clemson, 15 games

Isn’t it fitting that two of the top teams on this list are Alabama and Clemson?

The Tigers last lost at home to unranked Pittsburgh 43-42 on a game-winning, 48-yard field goal during the 2016 season. Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner and Oakland Raiders quarterback Nathan Peterman were on that Pitt team, by the way.

Clemson was ranked No. 3 at kickoff and fell to No. 5 after taking its first loss of the season, but it only took the Tigers one week to climb back into the top four, leading to their national championship win over Alabama.

During its 15 straight victories since losing to Pitt, Clemson has only suffered a scare twice — 14-6 vs. No. 13 Auburn in 2017 and a 27-23 come-from-behind win against Syracuse last season after quarterback Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the game in the first half and Kelly Bryant had left the team the week before.

The final scores of the other 13 wins were: 56-7, 56-3, 34-7, 28-14, 24-10, 31-14, 61-3, 48-7, 38-7, 41-7, 77-16, 35-6 and 56-35.

Next home game: Aug. 29 vs. Georgia Tech

Game when the streak could end: Sept. 7 vs. No. 12 Texas A&M

T-2. UCF, 15 games

UCF fans are going to love this list that includes their beloved Knights in the top two of a ranking with Alabama and Clemson. After all, all three schools have won a national championship in the last two seasons. *wink*

Thanks to back-to-back undefeated regular seasons (and a 13-0 season in 2017), UCF’s active home winning streak is only bested by Alabama among FBS schools. The program’s last home loss was during the Knights’ 6-7 season in 2016, when they lost to Tulsa 35-20.

In their 15 wins since that game, the Knights have scored 61, 40, 63, 73, 49, 49, 62, 38, 56, 45, 48, 52, 35, 38 and 56 points — an average of 51 points per win.

Next home game: Aug. 29 vs. Florida A&M

Game when the streak could end: Sept. 14 vs. No. 25 Stanford

4. Washington, 14 games

Washington’s last home loss came on Nov. 12, 2016 to USC, and the Huskies have since gone undefeated at home two years in a row.

While Washington has arguably become the class of the Pac-12, having won the Pac-12 Championship twice in the last three seasons and having made the College Football Playoff in 2016, the Huskies haven’t had many notable home wins to show for their 14-game home winning streak.

Their only wins over ranked opponents in the last two seasons were against No. 14 Washington State in 2017 and No. 20 BYU last season.

Next home game: Aug. 31 vs. Eastern Washington

Game when the streak could end: Oct. 19 vs. No. 11 Oregon or Nov. 2 vs. No. 14 Utah

T-5. Army, 13 games

Army is 21-5 in the last two seasons, leading to the Black Knights climbing into the AP Top 25 last season for the first time since 1996. Two of those five losses were at Ohio State and at Oklahoma, too.

They’ve won 13 home games in a row, dating back to a 60-3 win over Morgan State on Nov. 19, 2016.

While many of those games were against MAC, Conference USA or non-FBS opponents, Army also beat Temple and Duke in 2017. Thirteen consecutive wins at home is impressive and Army could make a push for a third consecutive undefeated season at home.

Next home game: Aug. 30 vs. Rice

Game when the streak could end: Sept. 26, 2020 vs. Oklahoma

T-5. Georgia, 13 games

The Bulldogs’ current home winning streak aligns with their rise to national title contender. Georgia’s last home loss was to in-state rival Georgia Tech 28-27 in its regular season finale in 2016.

It’s hard to imagine the Yellow Jackets coming even close to the Bulldogs on the field now as Georgia Tech moves away from its option attack on offense and as Georgia starts the season ranked No. 3 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll after going 24-5 in the last two years.

Ironically, most of Georgia’s biggest wins in the last two seasons have come away from home — at Notre Dame in 2017, Auburn on a neutral field in the 2017 SEC Championship, Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl, Florida in Jacksonville and at Kentucky.

The ‘Dawgs will have a few big tests at home this season with Notre Dame and Texas A&M coming to Athens.

Next home game: Sept. 7 vs. Murray State

Game when the streak could end: Nov. 23 vs. No. 12 Texas A&M

T-5. Ohio State, 13 games

It’s pretty wild to think that Ohio State has won 13 consecutive home games and the last two Big Ten Championships, yet the Buckeyes aren’t even operating at their highest level.

Lopsided road losses to Purdue and Iowa during the last two seasons have clipped Ohio State’s playoff wings, but the Buckeyes have been dominant at home since losing to Oklahoma in non-conference play two seasons ago.

They knocked off No. 2 Penn State and No. 13 Michigan State in the Horseshoe later that season, then No. 4 Michigan in the regular season finale last fall. The Big Ten Championship often runs through Columbus, and it’s now up to Head Coach Ryan Day and quarterback Justin Fields to see that the trend continues.

Next home game: Aug. 31 vs. Florida Atlantic

Game when the streak could end: Nov. 23 vs. No. 15 Penn State

8. UAB, 12 games

Get this: UAB hasn’t lost at home in almost five years – since November 2014, to be exact.

Sure, the Blazers’ home winning streak is aided by the program closing its door for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, but it still makes for a fun piece of college football trivia.

UAB has a friendly home schedule this season with its toughest games (Tennessee, Southern Miss and North Texas) coming on the road, so there’s a chance its home winning streak extends to 2020.

Next home game: Aug. 29 vs. Alabama State

Game when the streak could end: Nov. 23 vs. Louisiana Tech

9. Notre Dame, 11 games

The Fighting Irish made their first playoff appearance last season and they were able to climb the rankings in large part because of home wins over No. 14 Michigan and No. 7 Stanford.

Their last home loss also played a role in a team’s selection to the College Football Playoff after Georgia went to South Bend in 2017 and left with a 20-19 win. (The Fighting Irish will have the chance to return the favor this fall.)

Given that it plays a schedule that features a handful of ACC opponents, USC and Stanford, and often at least one Big Ten foe, Notre Dame maintaining a perfect record at home is critical for its playoff hopes.

Next home game: Sept. 14 vs. New Mexico

Game when the streak could end: Sept. 28 vs. Virginia or Oct. 12 vs. USC

T-10. Appalachian State, 10 games

The Mountaineers will be under new leadership this season after Eli Drinkwitz replaced Scott Satterfield in the offseason after Satterfield jumped to Louisville. Appalachian State has had a pretty seamless transition to the FBS ranks, not just staying competitive in the Sun Belt but winning 10 or 11 games three times in the last four seasons.

App State’s last home loss was a 20-19 defeat at the hands of Wake Forest in Week 4 in 2017.

Next home game: Aug. 31 vs. East Tennessee State

Game when the streak could end: Oct. 31 vs. Georgia Southern

T-10. Oklahoma, 10 games

Oklahoma’s home winning streak spans two different Heisman Trophy campaigns by a Sooners quarterback as Baker Mayfield, then Kyler Murray, have fueled one of the most explosive offenses in the last two seasons.

OU’s last home loss came back in October of 2017 against Iowa State, and the program was also put to the test last September in an overtime victory against Army.

The Sooners play Texas at a neutral site in Dallas for their annual showdown, which helps Oklahoma’s home winning streak, but it will still have a few challenging games in Norman, especially in November when Iowa State and TCU come to town.

Next home game: Sept. 1 vs. Houston

Game when the streak could end: Nov. 9 vs. No. 21 Iowa State
