Wisconsin has gone from unranked to No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 poll with a victory over then-No. 5 LSU to start the season and a 54-10 trouncing of Akron last week. That doesn’t mean things are all roses in Madison, though. The Badgers lost starting linebacker Chris Orr to an ACL tear on their first defensive series against LSU, and now will be without No. 3 cornerback and special teams standout Natrell Jamerson for 4-6 weeks. Coach Paul Chryst confirmed Monday that Jamerson suffered a broken left fibula against Akron.

Fortunately for Wisconsin, it doesn’t appear that Georgia State will pose much of a threat Saturday. The Panthers lost 31-21 at home to Ball State in their opener before being waxed, 48-14, at Air Force last week. The offense has totaled 441 yards in the defeats while opposition has gained 986, with 789 of those coming on the ground. Woof.

    What To Know About Wisconsin

The defense might be hurting, but the offense is doing just fine. The Badgers ran up 586 yards against Akron as Bart Houston went 15 of 22 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. It was a much better effort than the opener, when Houston threw two interceptions against LSU. Corey Clement had another solid day with 111 yards and two scores, and he’s probably salivating at the thought of facing Georgia State’s horrible run defense.

What to Know About Georgia State

The Panthers looked good at first last week, as Connor Manning hit Ari Werts for a 22-yard touchdown pass to complete a 75-yard drive that put them ahead 7-0. Then Air Force returned the kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. That’s more total yardage than Georgia State gained the rest of the way. Air Force threw the ball only nine times while running for 464 yards. The Panthers can expect Wisconsin to at least double the Falcons’ pass attempts this week.

    Advantages

Offense: Wisconsin – Jazz Peavy showed he’s a threat after catching seven passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns against the Zips.

Defense: Wisconsin – Held LSU to 14 points and Akron to 10. Doing pretty good despite the injuries.

Special Teams: Wisconsin – Even with Jamerson out, the Badgers can’t be any worse than how Georgia State looked on the kickoff return it allowed.

Coaching: Wisconsin – Chryst is keeping the Badgers composed despite the injuries and early success.

Intangibles: Wisconsin – The Badgers have everything on their side in this matchup, including the talent and Camp Randall Stadium.
