On Saturday, I was doing my regular thing with my friends – watching sports while sitting at the bar – and the guy a few seats down happened to be one of the stars of The Sandlot. He was clearly intoxicated, and a few minutes later, got cut off. There’s no point of this story except the fact that it seems childhood stars can get cut off at the bar.

In college football news, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy, Charlie Strong is the new head coach at South Florida, and former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham is headed to The Plains to play for Auburn. Here are some other newsworthy notes in the latest college football news roundup.

Reunited, And It Feels So Good – New Texas head coach Tom Herman decided to not retain any of the staff left from the Charlie Strong era, instead choosing to compile his own collection of coaches. It didn’t take long for him to hire a wide receivers coach in Rutgers offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, who had previously worked for Herman at Houston.

Try Some Skyline Chili, CoachCincinnati hired Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell to become its new head coach after former head coach Tommy Tuberville resigned last week. This will be the 43-year-old Fickell’s first permanent head coaching stint – he served as an interim head coach with the Buckeyes in the transitory year between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer.

Scary Moment – While Saturday night was a time for celebration or the Louisville program after Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy, Sunday morning became a scary time as linebackers James Hearns and Henry Famurewa were two of three people shot near campus. The two student-athletes did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
